Our Heating Oil

Simply Green proudly offers BioHeat®, a more sustainable blend of heating oil and biofuel.  The majority of our biofuel is sourced from locally collected Waste Vegetable Oil. That’s right, the grease generated at your favorite local restaurants gets collected and processed into a usable fuel; your oilheat furnace can run on our blended products with no changes or modifications.

B5 BioHeat, 5% biofuel and 95% traditional heating oil, is covered under all major manufacturer warranties, and your furnace can run up to a B20 blend before needing any equipment changeover.

Our Biofuel

Biodiesel is made through a process called “transesterification.”

Did we lose you?  It’s actually pretty simple.  Basically a lipid—like recycled vegetable oil, or soybean oil—is chemically reacted with an alcohol, and two products result: biodiesel and glycerin.  For our uses, the glycerin is sloughed off, and the pure biodiesel product is combined with heating oil—to heat your home!

Just by making that small change, you can reduce the carbon footprint of heating your home by almost 4%. And, because of our local sourcing and production, utilizing Simply Green supports over 30 additional families, from the staff that collects, produces, blends and distributes our fuels.

Blends

Although we can blend at any ratio, typically our products are available in the following quantities:

B5

This blend is our flagship product, and every Simply Green customer begins heating his or her home with it. B5 is a blend of 5% biofuel and 95% #2 heating oil and has received accreditation from the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) International Main Committee under ASTM D396 to include 5% biodiesel and the National Oilheat Research Association (NORA) endorses BioHeat as viable #2 heating oil. By using B5 you will be reducing your CO2 emissions by 3.92% or the equivalent of planting 52 trees.

B20

This blend contains 20% biofuel and 80% #2 heating oil. B20 has its own ASTM specification to ensure fuel quality, D7467. Those who are interested in reducing their CO2 emissions even more may choose to increase to B20 after running B5 for a sufficient amount of time (determined on a case-by-case basis). Simply Green recommends that B5 be used before increasing B20 in order to prevent any potential filter clogging issues. By using B20 you will be reducing your CO2 emissions by 15.69% or the equivalent of planting 192 trees—yearly!
